The Masters and Committee of the Haydon Hunt confirm it is their objective, following the implementation of the law banning hunting with dogs in England and Wales, to: -
- Act at all times within the law and according to the Hunt Constitution.
- Conduct legal activities that enable the Hunt to maintain its structure and integrity with regard to hounds, staff, supporters, subscribers and members, whilst the law is in force.
- Maintain good relationships with farmers and landowners in our hunt country and respect and abide by their wishes at all times.
The type of activities we intend to carry out within the law and with consent and support of the farmers and landowners are: -
- Simulated Hunting. We intend to hunt an artificial trail across natural country and exercise hounds between trails in order to simulate traditional hunting, while staying within the confines of the 2004 Hunting with Dogs Act. We intend to do the following: -
-
- Meet at 10.45 am at traditional Haydon Hunt venues.
- Dress Hunt Staff and Officials traditionally, so that everyone knows who is in charge of the hounds.
- Control the hounds by hunting horn, voice and traditional methods.
- Lay trails across natural country, often starting from thick coverts, to allow the hounds to hunt with their noses. Trails will be laid by either a Quad bike rider, Mounted follower or someone on foot.
- Block up / stop foxholes during daylight hours to ensure foxes remain underground and out of the way of hounds.
- Appoint specific followers to be sent forward to help with roads and control hounds. They will quietly report any sightings of foxes to hunt staff so that pursuit of a fox may be avoided.
- Hound Exercise. Between individual trails and in areas of country where trails will not be suitable, hounds will be exercised on pre-arranged routes.
- Discretionary fox control. This will be within the law and strictly by arrangement with farmers and landowners.
